Your Culture denotes your Identity. Be proud of your culture.
Cultural Preservation (CUP) is a program created to help our community instill good values into our society. This will be done through learning from each other, exchanging information, measurement of results of program champions and rewarding CUP best performance. The Spirit of the program is captured by the fact that the majority of members of our community in North America have succeeded living abroad. Our community has persevered, has lived on a strong value system that we came with from home, good values that would like to carry on. Also our diversity has been a great asset and this is best described by the Governor of Maryland when he wrote:
"Diversity is by far our greatest asset. For over two decades, the Uganda North American Association has strengthened that quality by promoting a distinct heritage and uniting friends from across the world, leading to a greater appreciation of the Ugandan culture not only within Maryland but throughout our nation. " Martin O' Malley Governor of Maryland, USA
The Objective of the Program is to preserve the good values that have kept our community strong with a goal to transfer these values to the younger generation, share them with other communities in North America and promote our motherland.
This Program Involves teaching our good cultural values to families, sharing the same with community members and exchanging information with others to do the same. Any actions that will strengthen and preserve our good cultural values is acceptable as a measurable program activity. Other acceptable activities involve showing other communities our good values and introducing them to who we are.
WHEN:
This program starts in the first fiscal quarter, that is early in the year in the early months of January or February. The program duration is one year and will have requirements to meet along the way. Winners of the program will be recognized and rewarded in our 3rd fiscal quarter. The UNAA year is divided into these quarters for better reporting and activity tracking..
This program enlists families or individuals that have something to share that will help cultural preservation. Anyone can enlist.
The UNAA administration will monitor the timelines, the activity reporting and the deliverables. The administration will also measure the results against the program duration and evaluate the work of the program champions and participants.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
Program Champions and participants can carry out cultural preservation from various with their chosen program components. A champion can choose to focus on our roots and cultural backgrounds, history and traditions etc. Other aspects of this program can be, instilling our good value system in the young generation. The third aspect can be sharing and educating American communities about our culture. This could be through teaching music, drama or acting to people in the United States. This could also be taking visitors and tourists home to show them where we come from.
Program activities will be carried out by the program champions, program participants or their partners. These activities will be tracked and results will be measured via viable tools.
All this activities are good for our country, good for us and they strengthen the community. It is quite obvious that there could even be more aspects to this program and with the creativity of program champions and that of participants, the sky is the limit.
WHAT RESOURCES:
Program participants will use available UNAA resources like the website and UNAA communication platforms like printed brochures or booklets etc to get their message out. Participants and program champions will also have access to UNAA's network of partners and friends. At the end of the program, winners will get rewards and their work will be recognized.
