MISS UNAA 2010 Guidlines
MISS UNAA is a good way to keep the youth involved in the convention and it is a channel youth can use to find themselves, express themselves, cultivate their cultural awareness, learn various aspects of leadership and learn how to become role models.

A MISS UNAA 2010 Pageant has therefore been put together by organizers led the UNAA Youth Representative Sophie Mukasa, who is also former Miss UNAA 2005 contestant.

The Pageant will be fusing traditional themes that show case our roots with contemporary trends. The Pageant will also showcase the best of Ugandan Fashion, values, traditions, entrepreneurship, health living and much more.

MISS UNAA 2010 AWARD GUIDELINES, RULES AND REGULATIONS

MISS UNAA strives to ensure that all monies won by contestants are allocated for expenses relative to education, health living or entrepreneurship.

1) AWARD USAGE:

Award funds may be applied to tuition, textbooks, supplies, academic fees and other appropriate educational expenses. Award funds may also be applied to expenses in relation to health living. The third category is applying the funds towards entrepreneurial projects. Qualified Tuition and Related Expenses include tuition and fees required for enrollment or attendance of a student at an educational organization, including fees, books, supplies and equipment required of all students in the particular course of instruction.

MISS UNAA ORGANIZERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO AMEND AND OR MODIFY THE FOREGOING RULES AND REGULATIONS AT ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE.


GENERAL BACKGROUND

* Miss UNAA is a program of the Ugandan North American Association - UNAA, a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 1988. This program is intended to empower Ugandan and North American Ugandan young women living in North America to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence.

* The MISS UNAA program exists to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women and to promote their voices in culture, politics and the community. The program will provide a forum for today's young women to express their viewpoints, talents and accomplishments to various Ugandan and North American audiences across North America.

* Miss UNAA is dedicating valuable cash and valuable item-prizes to further education, health living and entrepreneurship.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

* This pageant is intended to stimulate education, health living and entrepreneurship amount our members and especially young women.

* Each contestant will be required to choose an issue about which she cares deeply and that is of relevance to our community. Once chosen, Miss UNAA will promote this issue through out our communities and she may use local and national UNAA resources to further this goal. The issues may include, HIV/AIDS prevention, poverty alleviation, education, entrepreneurship, healthy living topics, etc.

BECOMING A CONTESTANT:

This year young women just like you will be awarded great prizes towards their educational, health living or entrepreneurial goals. But that is only a small part of the many benefits that come to a contestant in this pageant. The pageant will bring more accomplishments, confidence and will also inspire others.

Whatever your dreams are, the MISS UNAA contest will help bring you closer to achieving your goals. This process requires personal commitment, hard work and talent. This pageant will promote community involvement throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Uganda. It will also further achievements among young women in their communities. MISS UNAA organizers do not charge a fee for entry into the pageant - all you need is commitment, perseverance, talent and ambition.

SEE QUICK FACTS:

To compete you must

* Be between the ages of 17 and 28.
* Be a resident of the United States or Canada.
* Meet residency requirements for competing for a certain town or state in North America.
* Meet character criteria as set forth by the MISS UNAA Organizers.
* Meet the contest requirements.
* Be able to meet the time commitment as set forth by the MISS UNAA Competition program in which you will compete.

AWARD PRIZES:

This year, the Miss UNAA organizers will make available $2000, broken down as follows - $1000 in cash for tuition, health living or entrepreneurship assistance. The winner will also get $1000 in selected valuable items that further goals in entrepreneurship, education or health living.

This year, the Miss UNAA organizers will make available to the 1st runner up $1000, broken down as follows - $500 in cash for educational related expenses, health living or entrepreneurship assistance. The 1st runner up will also get $500 in valuable items that further goals in entrepreneurship, education or health living.

This year, the Miss UNAA organizers will make available to the 2nd runner up $500, broken down as follows - $300 in cash for education related expenses, health living or entrepreneurship assistance. The 2nd runner up will also get $200 in valuable items that further goals in entrepreneurship, education or health living.

FORMER MISS UNAA:

Agnes Senyana, Miss UNAA 2005, is an engineer and a mother of two who has devoted numerous hours teaching peers how to dance traditional dance and other African dances in her free time. She is a career lady and she attended college at Minnesota's topmost University, the University of Minnesota. She is an active member of the Ugandan Community of Minnesota.

The final product of this pageant is seeing a number of beautiful younger ladies on stage but as a volunteer, you will get to go behind the scenes and see what it takes to put this show together. Be part of the fun and the challenge to make a difference in our young women for the good of education, entrepreneurship and health living. This is a good way to do community service for the UNAA non profit 501c3.

The Pageant volunteers are dedicated individuals who will assist in putting up the competition. They will work with the production team to host the media and work daily with the contestants in Washington D.C.
