Following a trip to Uganda in July 2011, former UNAA President Mr. Moses Wilson, brought to UNAA's attention the plight of a special primary school he had visited on the outskirts of Kampala.

Founded in 2001, Citizen Parents Primary School is located within a slum area of Makindye Hill and sits on a rented area of roughly 1/2 acre in size. The school comprises of 542 children all of whom either come from the local slum community, are orphans with absolutely nowhere else to go, or are abandoned/run away children rescued from the streets of major cities such as Kampala, Gulu and Lira. At the time this school had no running water and the school administrated suffered desperately to feed these lovely children. The picture above (on your left) is the kitchen where the food is prepared and cooked using firewood.

The UNAA Board therefore passed a resolution to adopt this cause and to raise funds for Citizen Parents Primary School from within UNAA's membership ranks. The UNAA Board established a $2000 monetary goal to provide immediate relief to these Ugandan children. It is with great pleasure that I announce to you today that UNAA members have reached into their hearts and have risen to the challenge. Our $2000 goal has been achieved. I would like to thank the former UNAA President Mr. Abdul Kimbugwe, former UNAA Treasurer Mr. Patrick Ayota and UNAA Special Envoy for Uganda Mr. Kiza Seninde who have kindly agreed to present this token of assistance to the Headmaster of Citizens Primary School on behalf of all the students. Please accept this token from the hearts of UNAA Members.

The Ugandan North American Association – UNAA believes education is the key to a better quality of life and also to a positive difference for the good of our motherland. It is our hope that this assistance will go a long way in assisting the children of Citizen Parents with their education. More importantly it is also our hope that our gesture today will inspire other people who are equally blessed to keep the focus on this school and to do whatever little they can to further the education and other blessings these young children need so dearly.

I would like to take this opportunity as President of UNAA to thank the Ugandan Community in North America and our partners in Uganda for making a difference in the lives of the children of Citizen Parents. Let this inspire more people who can help but also encourage young children studying under difficult conditions not to lose hope.
